Attendance and Satisfactory Academic Progress

Attendance Policy

Often one of the first questions a prospective employer asks concerns student attendance. Employment often depends upon good attendance. Once employed, employees are expected to report to work regularly and on time. Recognizing this, Skyline College believes students should follow a policy of regular attendance and punctuality to receive the maximum benefit from their educational experience and to develop the work habits and personal qualities highly valued by employers.

Students are expected to attend all regularly scheduled class meetings. Students are encouraged to tell their instructor in advance or to call the administrative office if they will be absent.

Instructors may request a review board for students whose absences from class interfere with their ability to meet course objectives. Action may result in actions including being dropped from the course, probation, or suspension. If a pattern of excessive absences is noticed, a review board may be conducted as well. Dropped students will be assigned a grade of F. Providing documentation does not remove an absence from attendance records.

Whenever students believe their attendance record is in error, a written request challenging the error may be submitted to the Academic Department Head within three weeks of the end of the course.

Immunization Policy

The medical assisting and practical nursing programs require a complete physical examination and proof of immunization prior to the commencement of skills labs/clinical/externship studies.
